“Shades of Me” is an enlightening book of poetry and short stories that takes the reader on a journey through love, injustice, and faith in God. It reveals the heart of a young woman contemplating her emotions in every phase of love; whether it's falling in love, heartbreak or regret. This powerful collection of poetry encourages the reader to take on the challenges of inequality/societal norms and the different aspects and phases of love.
Most of the author's poems were written years ago when she was attending college. During that time, as with everyone in their twenties, she was finding herself and trying to understand what she was witnessing in the world. The result is a tapestry of poetry about the highs and lows of love, the call to action for people of color, and the longing to have a deeper relationship with God.
“Shades of Me” is organized into three chapters: MY PEN/MY WORDS/MY PEOPLE, Aspects of Love, and My Faith. It is the author’s desire that the reader find a poem that speaks to them in a meaningful way.
